Palestra: “Generalised Phase Field Modelling of Fracture in Gyroid Structures: Numerical and Experimental Insights Using Additively Manufactured PLA Specimens”

O Departamento de Engenharia de Estruturas promove nesta sexta-feira, dia 14, a palestra Generalised Phase Field Modelling of Fracture in Gyroid Structures: Numerical and Experimental Insights Using Additively Manufactured PLA Specimens, com o doutor Deison Preve, do IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca e the University of Udine da Itália.

Abstract (shortened):
This presentation aims to show a three-dimensional cohesive generalised phase field framework for simulating quasi-static fracture in Gyroid lattice structures. The model extends classical AT1/AT2 formulations with linear, exponential, and hyperbolic softening laws, calibrated through tensile tests on flat 3D-printed PLA specimens. Comparisons with experiments under tensile and compressive loads show accurate reproduction of crack initiation, propagation, and failure mechanisms. The formulation demonstrates strong predictive capability and opens perspectives for applications in coated structures, other complex bio-inspired structures, and nano and micro-scale effects.
