{"id":43836,"date":"2024-08-06T14:36:06","date_gmt":"2024-08-06T17:36:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eesc.usp.br\/comunicacao-admin\/?p=43836"},"modified":"2024-08-08T13:33:38","modified_gmt":"2024-08-08T16:33:38","slug":"professores-visitantes-da-ulster-university-uk-ministrarao-palestras-na-eesc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eesc.usp.br\/comunicacao-admin\/?p=43836","title":{"rendered":"Professores visitantes da Ulster University ministrar\u00e3o palestras na EESC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Entre 27 e 31 de agosto, os professores titulares da Ulster University (UK), Pilar Fern\u00e1ndez-Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez e John Anthony Byrne visitar\u00e3o a Escola de Engenharia de S\u00e3o Carlos (EESC), dentro das atividades previstas no conv\u00eanio USP n\u00ba 46731, que o oficializa o projeto de pesquisa internacional intitulado <em>Low cost technologies for drinking water in Brazilian rural communities &#8211; household slow sand filters combined with ultraviolet LED disinfection<\/em> (ICA\\R1\\201373 &#8211; International Collaboration Awards 2020).<\/p>\n<p>O projeto \u00e9 financiado pela Royal Society do Reino Unido e, no Brasil, est\u00e1 sob responsabilidade da professora do Departamento de Hidr\u00e1ulica e Saneamento (SHS), Lyda Patricia Sabogal Paz.<\/p>\n<p>Por ocasi\u00e3o da visita, a professora Pilar Fern\u00e1ndez-Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez e o professor John Anthony Byrne ministrar\u00e3o duas palestras (em ingl\u00eas). Pilar (Arquivo pessoal)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Professora of Environmental Engineering at Ulster University and previously Head of Group at Plataforma Solar de Almer\u00eda of CIEMAT (Spain). Her research focuses on low-cost technologies for water purification and advanced oxidation processes for the removal of microbiological and chemical pollutants from water. Pilar is an experienced researcher in the areas of low-cost drinking water disinfection solutions for the Global South and solar water treatment. Received grant awards from UKRI, EU-FPV, VI, VII, Horizon 2020 and Royal Society International Collaboration for her research in Latin America, Asia, and Europe. She has authored key publications in these areas of research (183 peer-reviewed research papers, H-index=66, citations=17,400). Fellow of the<br \/>\nInstitute of Physics, representative of Ireland in the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics, and member of the committees of Climate Change and Environmental Sciences of the Royal Irish Academy and the committee of Physics for Development. European Editor of the Journal of Photochemistry &amp;amp; Photobiology, and Editor of the Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering (Elsevier). He leads the Clean Technology research theme within the Nanotechnology and Integrated BioEngineering Centre (NIBEC). Tony&amp;#39;s teaching and research focuses on nanotechnology for environmental and energy applications. Tony is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Tony studied biology and chemistry at Ulster at undergraduate level, obtaining a 1st class honours degree and studied his DPhil in chemistry at Ulster under the supervision of Dr Brian Eggins. He continued his research career at Ulster and was appointed as a lecturer in the School of Engineering in 2005. He was rapidly promoted and made Professor in 2012. Tony&amp;#39;s research is focused on photocatalytic nanomaterials for use in environmental remediation and renewable energy applications. He also has an interest the fabrication and characterisation of nanomaterials, focusing mainly on metal oxides. Tony leads the Photocatalysis Research team at Ulster. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and serves on the committee of the RSC Northern Ireland Section Committee and the Chemical Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Interest Group. He is a founding Board Member of the Northern Ireland Science Festival.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Resumo do projeto de pesquisa ICA\\R1\\201373<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>663 milh\u00f5es de pessoas no mundo n\u00e3o t\u00eam acesso \u00e0 \u00e1gua pot\u00e1vel, assim, essa popula\u00e7\u00e3o precisa de tecnologias de baixo custo que atendam \u00e0s suas necessidades e limita\u00e7\u00f5es. Os filtros lentos domiciliares podem ser considerados uma tecnologia de tratamento de \u00e1gua promissora para uso dom\u00e9stico em \u00e1reas n\u00e3o atendidas por redes de distribui\u00e7\u00e3o. Neste contexto, a Ulster University (Reino Unido) e a EESC\/USP (Brasil) ir\u00e3o avaliar o desempenho de sistemas integrados de filtros lentos domiciliares acoplados a reatores de UV-LED em climas temperados e tropicais.
