This talk presents a joint work between the academic team Contrôle de Qualit´e et Fiabilit´e Dynamique (CQFD) (Inria Bordeaux and University of Bor- deaux) and the French naval defence company DCNS. After a global presentation of the team CQFD, I’ll describe the problem set by DCNS for a submarine equipped with a sonar system which wants to detect targets as well as possible. I’ll then explain the solution proposed by CQFD based on dynamic programming theory for Markov decision processes and show some numerical results. Benoˆıte de Saporta received her Ph.D. in applied probability in 2004 from Rennes 1 University (France). Since 2006, she has been Assistant Professor at Montesquieu Bordeaux IV University, Department of Economics. She is also a member of the INRIA Team Contrˆole de Qualit´e et Fiabilit´e Dynamique (CQFD). Her research is focused on applied probability and more specifically estimation, control and numerical approximations for autoregressive processes, Markov switching processes and hybrid systems, with applications in reliability and biology.
