O objetivo foi estreitar parceria entre as duas instituições, especialmente em relação a intercâmbios de ensino, pesquisa e extensão.
Os professores Anke Müller, Head of Engineering Department, e Christoph Koch, Professor of the Department of Interdisciplinary and Innovative Sciences, ambos da Universidade de Hof (Alemanha), estiveram na Escola de Engenharia de São Carlos (EESC-USP) para uma visita de três dias.
Eles foram recepcionados no dia 13 novembro, em reunião que contou com a presença do diretor da Escola e de membros da Comissão de Cooperação Internacional (CCInt). Depois, cumpriram uma programação intensa, coordenada pelo professor Fernando César Almada Santos, do Departamento de Engenharia de Produção. Durante os dias que permaneceram no campus, os alemães visitaram os Departamentos de Engenharia de Materiais, Elétrica e de Computação, Produção, Aeronáutica, Mecânica e Hidráulica e Saneamento, além do Programa Interunidades de Pós-graduação em Bioengenharia e grupos de atividades extracurriculares.
"Foi uma visita excelente. Eles puderam ter uma visão global da EESC e estão levando esta boa impressão que tiveram de nossa infraestrutura e de nossas atividades para a comunidade acadêmica de Hof.", comentou Almada. Segundo ele, logo será aberto um processo de duplo diploma entre EESC e a instituição alemã.
Na tarde do dia 15, Anke e Christoph participaram de um encontro com cerca de 60 alunos, para apresentação de oportunidades e tirar dúvidas sobre as possibilidades de intercâmbio para graduação e pós-graduação.

Como avaliam a visita à EESC?
The visit to the EESC met his high expectations. Not only was it excellently prepared, but it was also characterized by many productive and open discussions with various professors and employees of the EESC. The visit is a great motivation for us to invest in the cooperation with the EESC and to promote the exchange of researchers, lecturers, and students.
O que mais impressionou?
The sheer size of the entire USP, but also of the EESC, is of course very impressive by our standards and the most obvious difference to our university. Added to this is the remarkable research performance and the high reputation of USP, which also has an excellent reputation here in Germany. But also, EESC's social, extracurricular initiatives are exemplary and inspiring for us (e.g. Centro de Inclusão Social and the formula students teams @formulaeesc). We are proud to have USP as a partner at our side.
O que destacariam de pontos em comum com a Hof?
Despite the differences in size, we noticed a surprising number of similarities during our visits to the various departments. Teaching at the EESC is also characterized by rather small groups and has a high proportion of application-oriented teaching, for example through student projects or laboratory work. We also saw some similarities in terms of the atmosphere on campus. It is perhaps generally a little more relaxed in Brazil, but we try to keep up in Hof.
Qual o próximo passo?
We will be welcoming students from the EESC here in Hof next summer semester and are very much looking forward to it. As we have heard from our International Office, there are also some interested German students. This is super important as everything starts with students. They will act as testimonials for our programm. We have also been able to identify many similarities on the research side, which we are eager to expand through initial small joint projects and publications. Additionally, we would like to strengthen the formal cooperation through further agreements. Discussions on this will take place shortly.
Depois da EESC, Anke e Christoph seguiram para o campus da capital, onde conheceram outras Unidades da USP, juntamente com Prof. Dr. Gerald Schmola, Dean of the Department of Interdisciplinary and Innovative Sciences (Hof), que estava já naquela localidade.
